Woodcock Hill saved for the community
On 6 July 2008, following a 5-day public inquiry, Hertsmere County Council resolved to grant village green
status to Woodcock Hill, and thus save it from threatened housing development.
The large open space in Borehamwood has been an invaluable resource for residents of the locality to
enjoy, be it by walking, brambling, children playing, or simply taking in the views from its slopes.
EarthRights acted for local residents' campaign Woodcock Hill Open Space 4 Ever! (WHOSE!)
in the preparation of the village green application and instructed barrister Robert White
to present the application at the public inquiry.

"WHOSE! would like to thank John Dunkley at EarthRights for his advice and support.
He guided us through the complex laws and encouraged us when we felt dismayed.
He knew who was the best barrister to take our case to Public inquiry.
For his help and expertise the community of Hillside in Borehamwood owe a huge debt.
Until John came to work for us, we had not known about Town and Village Greens.
Now we have our own Village Green at Woodcock hill for the community to enjoy for ever.
Once again a big thank you!"
- Pat Strack, chair of WHOSE!
